New lines of communication for the Games

Friday 26 June 2015

You can now see for yourself how one local company is powering the Natwest Island Games.

JT has created an online ‘time lapse’ video showing the efforts they’ve been going to behind the scenes over the last few months.

The Games’ technology sponsor is responsible for making sure the organisers, athletes, visiting media and home supporters can stay in touch across all 32 sporting venues and can broadcast all the latest results.

The Youtube video shows some of the challenges the engineers getting the Island Games Village in Howard Davis Park all kitted out and it offers a glimpse of the state-of-the-art fibre camera connection at Springfiled.

They’ve set up 43 new Free Wi-Fi access points across the Island, laid over 860 metres of internal cabling to connect all the sporting venues and JT have handed out more than 5,000 free JT SIM cards for visitors and athletes.

JT’s Chief Relationship Officer Tim Ringsdore said: “Our role in the Natwest Island Games is a significant one because we are responsible for preparing each venue to deliver the technology expected by organisers, participants and spectators.  This has involved months if not years of careful planning leading up to the event itself.

“Behind the scenes we are ensuring that communication runs smoothly throughout the Games and this video helps show just some of the work our fantastic team have been doing over the last few months. The JT team has contributed many hundreds of man-hours and equipment, we hope to enable our community to shine, and we wish the organisers and participants a hugely successful event.”
