Jersey musician releases new single alongside Grammy-nominated producer

Sunday 19 February 2023

A Jersey-born musician is set to release his new 80s-inspired synth pop single - created with the help of a Grammy-nominated producer whose previous work includes tracks with Arcade Fire, The Idles, and Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead fame...

With his glitzy synth-pop feel, Tom Falle - who releases music under the alias 'Rhumba Club' - has caught the eye of organisations like BBC Introducing and GQ, with the latter ranking him second in its best new artists list in 2020.

Tom, who is now based in London, has been making music in a professional capacity since 2013.

He started out alongside fellow Jerseyman Eddy Bailhache with band TEDDY, and then stepped out alone in 2017 as Rhumba Club.

Tom released his debut solo album 'Welcome To The Rhumba Club' in 2021.

Since then, he has been busy composing music for fashion giants Hermes and Fendi, touring the UK supporting Belorussian Post-punk ban Molchat Dome, as well as working on his latest album which is set to be released this summer.

The first single from the album, 'Video Game', was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Mikko Gordon, who has previously worked with Arcade Fire, The Idles, and Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead fame.

Wearing his 70's and 80's pop influences on his sleeve, Tom describes the track as "pre-escapist synth-pop gold".

The accompanying music video was filmed in Athens outside the now defunct Pinball Museum, featuring Tom "wearing a suit that David Byrne would be proud of."

Describing the songwriting process, Tom said: "About one-quarter of the way working through this record, Mikko pleaded with me to 'forget the politics for a bit' and just 'write some songs about love, sex and dancing'.

"So, whilst listening to a lot of Herbie Hancock, I searched around for the best video-game-based innuendos I could find.

"I ended up touching upon slightly dark ideas concerning virtual-reality-based relationships, but ultimately it's just a song about good old-fashioned sexual desire."
