New way to address your scam mail

Wednesday 02 March 2016

If you’ve been duped or approached by fraudsters there is now a new way to report it.

The Jersey Fraud Prevention Forum has set up a dedicated email address scams500@police.je so that you can forward anything you think might be a scam.

Islanders sent more than a thousand pieces of scam mail to the dedicated mail box set up last year and this new email will give people another way of letting the police know they are being targeted.

JFPF Chairman, Detective Inspector Dave Burmingham said: “PO Box 500 has been a huge success, raising awareness locally and making it easy for islanders to contact us to let us know what type of scam mail they are receiving.

“The Scams500 email address is going to work in effectively the same way but will just give people another way of contacting us.

“Fraudsters are increasingly working online and their scams are becoming ever more devious so it is only natural that more and more people are getting caught out; and not just the elderly I might add.

“Our duty is to keep raising awareness and to make sure that reporting this sort of activity is an easy process for those affected.”

All emails sent to scams500@police.je will be monitored by the Police’s Joint Financial Crimes Unit.
