Newlyweds left "devastated" after wedding cards theft

Thursday 02 June 2016

They only said ‘I do’ on Saturday but newlyweds Gavin and Emily Collins say they are “absolutely devastated” someone has stolen sentimental memories of their big day.

Police say they are investigating after the couple woke up after their wedding to find most of their cards had been opened and some stolen from St Ouen’s Manor.

The couple have posted a message on Facebook in the hope that the culprit will return the cards to them and have been overwhelmed by the response they've had. It's been shared more than 1,300 times as friends and family expressed shock that this could happen on their special day.

Emily said: "It's very overwhelming how much support we have from our islanders!

"My husband and I are absolutely devastated about this and can't believe that someone would open another persons wedding cards, let alone take the contents inside. We are trying very hard to not let this taint our memories of the day as we had the most incredible day with all of our family, friends and loved ones. Everyone had an awesome day and it really was perfect from start to finish.

"We know of four cards that have definitely been stolen completely as we were with family members at the time we realised they'd been opened, and they looked for their cards but couldn't find them. The majority of the cards left in the card box had been opened and 're-sealed'. We can't tell how many are missing at the moment as they're in evidence with the police."

Emily and Gavin are flying off on their honeymoon at the end of the week and really hope the person responsible for taking them will return these sentimental keepsakes of their special day before they go.

Emily said: "Whilst money/cash/dollars can be replaced, people's sentiments in our wedding cards cannot, so we plea to whomever has our cards to anonymously return them to the police station or to Caroline at Bridal Boutique."
