Nothing says 'Happy New Year' like a plunge in cold water

Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club members hope to start their club's 50th-anniversary year with a splash... by plunging into the sea on New Year’s Day.

The club's "traditional" New Year's Day swim is due to take place this year at Bel Val following storm damage to the St Catherine’s slipway, where the event is usually held.

Islanders who wish to join should arrive at 10:30, with the swim scheduled to take place at 11:00.

Swimmers are then invited to join the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club for refreshments at St Catherine's Sailing Club.

Those who are considering joining the swim are advised to check the JLDSC's social media for any changes to proposed plans.

The club, founded in 1974, also recently announced that it has appointed long-time member Jenny Fitzgerald as its new president.

She will take over from Dee Richards, who held the role for six years.

The JLDSC is an open-water swimming community which promotes safe sea swimming.

It welcomes anyone, from children to adults, who have a desire to extend their swimming abilities beyond the confines of a swimming pool.
