Ollie Rocks: Five things I would change about Jersey

Friday 28 July 2017

Anne Mullock spends her days keeping hounds handsome with her trendy dog tags and updating nearly 2,000 islanders over social media on playtime with her loveable pup Ollie.

He might only be three years old, but this little French bulldog is full of big ideas. Anne handed the star of the 'Ollie Rocks' Facebook page the lead today to tell us the five things he would change about Jersey.

1. Paws on deck... It's my holiday too!

There’s nothing better than going on holiday, but I'm not too keen on staying in the van all by myself. It’s noisy and scary, especially when people forget to turn their car alarms off! It’s always too cold in winter and in the summer it’s far too hot.

My ‘pet hate’ is that I’m not allowed in the cabin with the rest of my family! My mum worries a lot and checks on me, but I think if you have a vet's note to say you have no fleas or any other reason as to why you can't, there's no reason why a pup shouldn't be allowed in an allocated cabin. I'm clean, don't mess anywhere, and with curtain restrictions of course... Why shouldn't I?

2. Sorry, you're underage... Not if you're a dog!

Put simply, there need to be more places where I'm allowed in.

Video: Ollie Rocks... literally. The pup above is fed up of being left to wait outside, especially if he's got no entertainment like above.

It would mean the world to me go out in the evenings with my family altogether.

3. Gardeners, please start to think green

Stop the use of weed killer, pesticides and slug pellets. It's not only dangerous to me, but to all wildlife. We dont know it's there - especially when there are no signs up to warn us or signs where they sprayed!

Pictured: Little Ollie sometimes gobbles what's in front of him without knowing exactly what it is, which means he might get ill. He's howling for better signposting of harmful substances.

Because I can't read, when I'm off-lead, by the time my owner sees, it's too late. Rumour has it that some are pet friendly, but it always make me feel ill! Slug pellets are harmful too but oh boy, they look so good to eat! They should only be used safely inside a trap that we can't get into and have signs up to let our humans know.

4. Pooch-friendly pampering

I hate bath time - it makes me freak out. I prefer being washed in the kitchen sink as I don’t panic as much, but it’s never easy - even at my size!

Pictured: Splish, splash, Ollie would like to take a bath in a special pet wash... no frills attached!

I'd like to see a self-service pet wash with a raised bath that anyone can use. Just turn up, wash and go. There’s no need for fancy hair styles and nobody needs to touch my nails! It would bring an end to the wet dog smell at home or having to rub myself on the sofa to dry myself!

5. 'Take Your Dog To Work Day'

I'm lucky that I can go to work with my human.

I think all dogs should have the option of going with them, or have more special days of 'take your pet to work'. Apparently, just looking at my face reduces stress and if I can get an extra tummy rub, well, even better!
