Mary Berry has given plenty of baking tips in her time - but having a few drinks, and falling asleep while your pie is in the oven definitely isn't one of them.
Rather than waking to the delicious smell of a lightly browned apple pie, one St Saviour couple had a rather ruder awakening this morning, as they actually 'came to' to the sound of fire-fighters smashing down their door. Quite why a freshly-baked apple pie was their choice of late-night snack hasn't yet emerged, but it looks like being one they will regret.
Blue Watch were called to a block of flats in St Saviour at 03:00 this morning, after neighbours heard a fire alarm going off, and saw smoke coming from a locked basement flat.
The flat's inhabitants, who the fire service say were "intoxicated", "eventually" opened the door as firefighters were trying to break it down, and then walked out of their "smoky" home.
The culprit was quickly identified - a burnt apple pie - which the couple had presumably popped in the oven before dropping off.
It's prompted the fire service to warn: "This incident once again shows that it is never a good idea to cook food when you have been drinking."
