An islander no longer able to attend a “world-class” opera event is auctioning off the tickets to the highest bidder in aid of Ukraine.
The Festival International d’Art Lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence, an annual international music event, will be taking place in Aix-en-Provence, South of France in July this year.
Tara Holland Prior originally purchased the tickets at The Opera Awards, at Lincoln’s Inn Fields in 2019. Due to covid, the concert had to be postponed.
As she can no longer attend the new date, she said she thought she would use the tickets to help raise money for those suffering in Ukraine.
"In light of the humanitarian disaster in Ukraine, I wish I could do more but we would like the money raised to be used to support those in plight, including animals – household or from the zoos," she explained.
This year, the sun-soaked music festival will pay special tribute to Olivier Messiaen on the 13th anniversary of his death. There will be a performance on Turangalîla – Symphonie, where it was first performed in France at the Festival d’Aix in 1950.

“It is a magical setting for an opera festival. I am very sad not to be enjoying these tickets," said Tara.
"The festival is meant to be intimate, fantastic and seriously world-class in wonderful Provence, with local wines, cheeses, art, architecture, and warmth.”
Both tickets are for two operas on different nights in seating areas described by Tara as the "best available":
Friday 15th July – Il Viaggio by Dante
Saturday 16th July - Salome
Having purchased the tickets quite early, Miss Holland Prior had mentioned that the exact seats will be allocated a few days prior to the performance.
“The sooner the tickets are requested the sooner you get the best seats for those operas chosen,” she said.
Collection of the tickets will be one hour before up to 15 minutes prior to the curtain going up.
Anyone interesting in purchasing the tickets should contact Tara via email: taragardeners@outlook.com.
Bidding will close on Thursday 26th May 2022.
