Downhill racing on the up

Last weekend’s "Urban Downhill" proved such a success with both mountain riders and those turning out to watch them race through West Park there are now plans for more of them.

Around 50 riders - some as young as 13 - raced through the park on Saturday in a bid to become the Urban in the Park downhill champion.

The event was organised by the Channel Islands MTB Association and the Caesarean Cycling Club.

CIMBA’s Luke Pallot said: “The race went extremely well, we had a large number of riders not to mention an even larger number of spectators which was fantastic!

“The track was surprisingly long at just under 1 minute for the fastest time!"

Racing was tight with James Ollivier in 1st place with a time of 00:00:59.71 followed by Junior Motocross rider Matthew Rayson crossing the line at 00:01:01.35 and Commonwealth Games Competitor James Patterson crossing the line in third a second later.

Luke said: “At the race we received comments on how nice it was that the park was eventually being used for something and how fantastic the event was to watch.”

And if last week’s fix wasn’t enough – mountain bikers are gearing up for the last downhill of the year at Grève De Lecq this weekend.
