New electric car parking available at airport and ferry terminal

Wednesday 04 September 2024

Travellers and tourists will soon be able to drive themselves to the airport or harbour in a borrowed electric car as part of a new collaboration between Ports of Jersey and electric car share service EVie.

From tomorrow, 10 allocated EVie parking spaces will be available at the airport and four at Elizabeth Terminal.

The service will use EVie's one-way 'A2B' system, allowing customers to pick up a vehicle from one location and drop it off at another.

This means that users will be able to pick up a vehicle from various EVie parking spaces around the island, drive it to the airport or harbour, and leave it in an allocated space as they jet off or sail into the sunset.

The partnership follows EVie's recent collaboration with Channel Islands Coop, which provides electric cars and vans at four stores across the island.

Matt Thomas, CEO of Ports of Jersey, said: "EVie's A2B service is a real opportunity for sustainable tourism. We have an ambitious sustainability strategy to support our customers to decarbonise their journeys to and from the airport."

Sophie Roffe, Head of Sustainability and Community Value at Ports of Jersey, said: “We hope this will make a real difference for islanders and visitors, and the next stage will be to extend the scheme to our marinas and historic harbours."

Nick Perchard-Rees, CEO of EVie, said: "Our new A2B service directly supports this initiative by offering electric, flexible, cost-effective transport that also lowers the number of journeys required."
