Hundreds of summer revellers descended on Havre des Pas today for the annual seaside festival.

It’s the tenth successive year the event’s been staged and has now become a firmly established event of the summer season.

But, despite it’s popularity, it was almost cancelled last year. The organiser for the past decade pulled out at the last moment saying he’d made “substantial losses” running the event, and that he was having problems securing sponsorship. That prompted the parish of St Helier to step in. It’s helping out again this year.

There’s an action-packed agenda.

The festivity kicked off today at 10:00 and will run until 18:30. In the past the event has been free, but this year organisers are asking for a £1 donation which will go to charity. Amongst the organised events lined up are a sandcastle competition, family beach games, tug-of-war, a beach scavenger hunt, a waiter and waitress race, and beach limbo.

But it’s the live music, and the food and drink that’s on sale, that are probably the main attractions and 13-year-old Kacey Hacquoil certainly made an impression, playing a lovely selection of tunes in front of an appreciative crowd.

The seafront road at Havre des Pas - between the roundabout at Hotel de Normandie and Havre des Pas Gardens will be closed to traffic from 07:00 to 23:00. The southern sections of Roseville Street and Cleveland Road will also be closed.
