One year on from the successful ‘Save People’s Park’ movement, a tree has been planted to commemorate the campaign.
The West of Town Community Association (WOTCA) organised the tree planting ceremony to celebrate saving the site from becoming the location of the proposed new hospital.
During the ceremony, Rachael Fay, Secretary of the West of Town Community Association, described the area as, “...a park for the people of Jersey and not something for a building site.”

WOTCA were "really happy" with the ceremony and expressed their relief that the park had been "saved" for the public of Jersey.
Mary Ayling-Philip, the Associations’ Chair commented: “We’re really pleased; the people wanted to save this park.”
In addition to yesterday being the one-year anniversary of the park being "saved", it was also the 150th anniversary of the park being purchased for public use.

St Helier Deputy Sam Mezec attended the ceremony. He said: “It’s good to get the gang together who took part in the really successful campaign last year.”
Speaking about the new tree, he added: “It’s a forever sign of people power that will last years and years.”
