From waterfalls to wadis, valleys to villages and canyons to cliffs, a Jordanian adventure awaits islanders keen to raise money for some of the island’s most physically disabled people.
Jersey Cheshire Home is hunting for individuals to take part in the sixth in a series of strenuous – but rewarding – treks to help fund the round-the-clock care they provide.
The challenge has previously seen trekkers visit Peru, Iceland, India, Slovenia and Patagonia – but this time round, the varied and wildlife-filled terrains of Jordan are the scene where the charity is setting its fundraising from 5 to 12 October next year.
Inbetween camping at Bedouin campsites and eco lodges, hikers will get to enjoy two UNESCO world heritage sites: the ruinous, but no less breathtaking, sandstone city of Petra, and the Neolithic remains at Beida.

More impressive views will be offered by the stop at Jabah-Al-Safaha, while each night will be punctuated by sunsets and clear-sky stargazing.
Cheshire Homes’ trek representative Paul Coundley commented: “Jordan is a spectacular venue and we are looking forward to this immensely. Our last trek in Argentinean Patagonia was so popular we had to put on a second group.
“We hope that people will come along to find out more about what promises to be an amazing experience for those who take part as they help raise vital funds for the work of the home.”
Sign-ups involve a £350 deposit, and a commitment to raise at least £1,600 for the home, which provides specialist therapies, as well as covering their own travel costs.

The majority of the money raised will go towards the charity’s £2million ‘Big Build’ refurbishment project, involving a major extension of Eric Young House in Rope Walk, creating three new ensuite nursing bedrooms and seven upgraded bedrooms, a new therapy room, additional lift, staff annexe and a meeting area.
The hikers will be raising money for the charity’s £2 million Big Build project, a major extension and refurbishment of Eric Young House in Rope Walk, which will create three new en-suite nursing bedrooms and seven upgraded bedrooms, a new therapy room, an additional lift, a multi-purpose area for meetings, a space for training and residents’ activities as well as a staff annexe.
Keen adventurers can attend a presentation on the 2019 trek at Jersey Cheshire Home this Wednesday 3 October at 18:00.
