As well as moving the cycle track to make a clearer separation from the pedestrian pathway, the area outside the shelter would be made pedestrian-only to improve access, rather than having the cycle path intersect between it and the pedestrian area.
A dedicated parking bay for the ambulance would also be created, and plants, shrubs and trees added, in addition to what the plans bill as a ‘seafront garden’.
“The Bel Royal area on the seafront is a high congestion point with outdoor eateries, a nursery and beach access. Additionally, the cycle track and pedestrian pathway merges together which causes significant strain on the area,” Infrastructure Minister Deputy Kevin Lewis said.

“As part of the Sustainable Transport Strong Start Programme, I am committed to making the island a safe place for cyclists and pedestrians; these proposed plans would not only make it safer for cyclists and walkers but would also create a more attractive area for islanders to enjoy with increased seating and green spaces.
“I would like to encourage islanders to review the plans and share their feedback.”
A survey about the plans has now opened and will run until 13 July.
Islanders can view the full plans HERE, and respond to the survey HERE.
