Police appeal after "slumped" man accused of inappropriate touching

Thursday 29 April 2021

Jersey Police are investigating whether a man in his 40's touched one of two women inappropriately, after the pair stopped to help him up off the street.

In a statement, they say that the two women - who were 20 and 35 - saw the man, who they didn't know, "slumped" in a doorway in Union Street, early on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say they stopped to help him to his feet, and gave him some water, when he allegedly touched one of the women in what they describe as an "inappropriate manner." The two women then apparently walked off leaving the man on his own.

Their statement describes the man as being in his 40s, of average build, and about 5’ 8 or 9 tall. Police say his appearance was unkempt, and he was wearing a dark grey zip up hooded jacket, grey cargo style trousers with grey boots.

A 40 year old man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

Police say there were lots of pedestrians in the area at the time, and would like anyone with information to contact them on 612612 or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at Crimestoppers-uk.org
