Police appeal for crash witnesses

Friday 09 September 2016

Police are appealing for witnesses to two road traffic collisions yesterday.

At 22:11 a grey Honda Civic crossed the central reservation from the eastbound carriageway as it entered the St Helier underpass and struck a lamp.

A police statement today read: “Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or the manner of the driving of the Honda prior to the collision. The Honda has turned onto La Route De Liberation from Gloucester Street and gained sufficient speed that the driver has lost control of the vehicle on the down ramp of the underpass leading east.

“The vehicle has closed the central reservation and collided with a lamp snapping it clean off from its fixings. The Honda continued and collided with the wall on the driver’s side before coming to a halt against the marina wall opposite Liberty Wharf.

“Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, especially the driver of a red Fiesta, who was seen to emerge from the underpass heading west a short while after the collision.”

Three people were in the car and the two passengers were uninjured, while the driver had minor injuries to his knees.

At 14:40, at the junction of the Esplanade and Castle Street a red Fiat 500 car collided with a black Triumph Street Triple motorbike.

The red Fiat had been travelling along Castle street from the roundabout and turned right into Liberation Street. The motorcycle had been travelling along Castle Street from Sand Street and the vehicles collided at the junction.

The car driver was uninjured, but the 44-year-old motorcycle rider was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable, with a fractured shoulder.

Police are appealing for witnesses for both incidents and the public can call 612612, or anonymously on Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.
