Stabbings: Police say cases are not linked

Monday 31 October 2016

Jersey Police have moved to reassure Islanders that the recent incidents of an alleged murder and alleged attempted murder are not connected.

Gerard Eamon Maguire, 49, was today charged with attempted murder and appeared at the Magistrate's Court. It came just days after a charge of murder against Michael Charles Brown, 51, following the death of a 73-year-old pensioner.

Superintendent James Wileman said: "Now that the case is in the hands of the court I am unable to talk in specific detail, however, I feel it is important to reassure Islanders that cases such as this and the incident last week where another man was killed, are extremely rare in Jersey.

"I want to be quite clear that there are no links between the two cases and that in both incidents the parties were known to each other and that the incidents occurred in private premises.

"Our Community Policing team will be working with residents in the area of this incident to allay any concerns. I would urge anyone with any information to contact us on 612612 and speak to one of our team, or call anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
