Jersey Police have confirmed that they have arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of murdering Zsuzsanna Besenyei.

They have also used DNA analysis to confirm the body found on La Pulec beach on 16 May was that of the missing 37- year-old.

They say up to 20 officers are now working on the investigation and on-going enquiries include elements of forensic, search, passive data, house-to-house and interviews.

Family Liaison Officers have also been appointed, including a Hungarian speaker, who are working to support of the family in Hungary.

A post mortem examination carried out last Friday on Zsuzsanna's body failed to identify a cause of deathZsuzsanna was last seen on the evening on Thursday 10 May. The police launched an appeal after recovering her car – a blue Ford Fiesta Ghia with the registration number J48188 – 500 metres away from La Haule slip in St. Brelade early last week. 

It is believed Zsuzsanna had been in Jersey for the past seven or eight years. According to the police, she had no family in the island.

While a number of individuals have contacted the police since the appeal, no one has been able to give any information about Zsuzsanna's whereabouts since 10 May. DI Craig Jackson said the police are particularly interested into piecing together Zsuzsanna's movements over the weekend of 12 and 13 May. 

Today, Detective Superintendent Stewart Gull said: “Our main appeal remains in respect of Zsuzsanna – where was she and her blue Ford Fiesta between Thursday 10 May and Monday 14 May? We are asking anyone with information about Zsuzsanna to please get in touch."
