Police hunt missing driver after crash

Monday 19 December 2016

Emergency services used a drone with a thermal imaging camera to search for a missing driver following a serious car crash at Bel Royal over the weekend.

It happened just after 07:30 on Sunday morning, outside Bel Royal School, but the man left the scene of the collision before the emergency services arrived.

It sparked a huge search for the man throughout Sunday, with the Aerial Reconnaissance Team being called in to use the specialist thermal imaging kit. St Peter's Valley had to be closed for several hours, while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

No further details about what's being described as a "road traffic collision" have been released, but the police say they are now "...extremely concerned for the welfare of the person driving the vehicle involved."

Police describe him as,"...being in his late twenties/early thirties, approximately 5’4” tall, of medium build, with short black hair and wearing a dark red check shirt & dark trousers.'

Anyone who knows this man, or where he is, is asked to call the Police on 612 612.
