Wednesday 09 February 2022

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who might be able to assist with their investigation into the violent robbery of an elderly man.

Officers said the robbery was reported to have taken place at a property at the top of Old St. John’s Road near to the junction of New St. John’s Road between 02:45 and 03:15 last Friday.

During the incident, the man – described as "vulnerable" by Police – was assaulted and £6,300 in cash was stolen from his bedside drawer.

Police now want to speak with a man who walked from Cheapside through town towards Belmont Road in the early hours on that same day.

"This person is not suspected of any wrongdoing but could help with police enquiries," the Force said.
