Tributes have been paid to the 40-year-old man who collapsed and died while cycling on Wednesday evening, after he was named as Assistant Director of Customs and Excise Neil Hussey.

Police say that the death of Mr Hussey, a former Head Boy at Victoria College, is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Hussey's friends laid a floral tribute to him on Friday, near the spot where he died.

He had been riding his bike past the Co-op En Route between St Peter's Village and the top of Beaumont Hill at around 6.50 pm when he was seen to slow to a stop and then collapse on to the ground.

Although members of the public who saw what happened tried to help and called an ambulance, which took him to Accident and Emergency, he died.

A brief statement from the States of Jersey Police on Friday afternoon confirmed Mr Hussey’s identity.

The statement said: “The States of Jersey Police can now confirm that the death which occurred at the top of Beaumont Hill on Wednesday evening was 40-year-old Neil Andrew Roy Hussey.

“Neil’s death is not being treated as suspicious. Our thoughts are with Neil’s family and loved ones at this time."
