Police have named the 25-year-old killed in Monday night’s tragic crash as Samuel Jacob Slater.

Sam (pictured here with his niece in a photo supplied by his family) was killed when his motorcycle collided with a van outside the Dandara building site next to the Grand Hotel on The Esplanade at around 7.17 pm.

The van driver, who is in his 40s, has been arrested by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was in custody overnight but has now been released.

In a statement yesterday afternoon, police said: “The police can now confirm that the motorbike rider who died in last night’s road traffic collision was 25-year-old Samuel Jacob Slater.

“Sam’s family are being supported by family liaison officers from the States of Jersey Police.

“The investigation into Sam’s death continues and police would appeal for anyone who saw the collision or the events leading up to it to contact them on 612612.”

Although there were lots of people around at the time of the accident, and police have spoken to many witnesses, but they would still like anyone with any information to come forward.

They have also been reviewing CCTV footage to see if the accident was captured by cameras in the area.
