Jersey Police say they’re still treating the death of 51-year-old Ana Rebelo as suspicious but can’t comment too much because the incident is sub-judice – still under investigation with the possibility of going to trial.
Police believe she got home to her flat in Victoria Street in St Helier at about 20:30 on Monday 3 April and say she was found dead the following morning by family members. There was no sign of forced entry to the property.
Although a Home Office pathologist carried out a post-mortem and concluded she died as the result of a “compression to the neck by a third party”, Police say “it’s still not clear how she died”.
Forensic work and searches of the property are now completed. Thirty officers and staff continue to work on the enquiry, and in excess of 100 lines of enquiry have been and are being pursued.
A man was arrested and has since been released on bail.
Specially trained Family Liaison Officers continue to work with and support the family and in support of the family.
