Pool of orange to remember a special colleague and friend

Dozens of Swimarathon swimmers brightened up the pool at Les Quennevais this weekend in memory of a special colleague and friend.

Customs staff all in orange caps dived in to clock up laps for local good causes and remember customs officer Neil Hussey who passed away suddenly last year.

The Customs team's hats were all donned with Neil's nickname "Red1".

Organiser James Moulson from States Information Services said: "It was an especially poignant evening as all teams held a one minute clap for their much loved and respected colleague, Neil Hussey (40) who died suddenly last year. 

“Neil (second from the left) was part of the C&I team that has won the trophy for most laps swim in a single session for the last three years. The RBC Corporate Cup they won is now dedicated to Neil.”

More than 60 of Neil's friends and family took over the pool on Saturday night all wearing orange as a mark of remembrance. Together they raised £5,000 – more than any other non-corporate team and they hope the money will keep coming in.

The Swimarathon first started back in 1972 and has since raised more than £3.3m by and for the local community.
