Wednesday 02 June 2021

Ports of Jersey has appointed a former senior civil servant in charge of the Government’s relationship with its 'arms-length organisations' as its first Chief of Staff.

Darren Scott moves to the publicly owned incorporated company, where he will oversee developing its relationship with Government and other stakeholders.

Reporting directly to CEO Matt Thomas, Mr Scott will also lead and develop strategy and support Mr Thomas and the board in the effective running of the organisation.

Mr Thomas said: “This is a key role, and, with ten years’ experience in public service in Jersey, Darren will add strength to the Executive Team as we work to play our part in Jersey’s post-Covid-19 economic recovery.

“Darren brings valuable expertise, strategic thinking and a proven track record of leading complex projects, which will support our efforts to ensure a sustainable future for Ports of Jersey and our place at the centre of Island life.”

Mr Scott said: “I am excited to join Ports of Jersey at this pivotal point as we work collaboratively to strengthen Jersey’s position post-pandemic.

“I am looking forward to working with all stakeholders to continue to improve the positive role Ports of Jersey plays in our community”.

Before joining Ports, Mr Scott was the Government’s Director of Partnerships, where he was responsible for its relationship with the seven States-owned entities, including JT, Andium Homes, Jersey Post, Jersey Development Company and Ports.

He has previously been directly involved with the Channel Islands’ Lottery, Jersey Aircraft Registry and business support through the pandemic.

In a further appointment to the Executive Team, Jenny Marek-Murray, who started working at Jersey Harbours in 2008, has taken up the role of Director of Corporate Services, responsible for governance as well as information security and internal audit.

She said: “This is a really exciting time for our company as we move ahead with a number of key tasks and I am delighted at the opportunity to help shape our future direction. We have a great team at Ports of Jersey, and I look forward to working closely alongside them as we develop our plans together”.
