Ill-fated harbour restaurant seeks new operator

Ports of Jersey is once again setting out to find a catering partner for the restaurant at Elizabeth Terminal.

An ‘Invitation to Tender’ from Ports has been put out today asking for a partner to manage the harbour eatery.

Ports first began looking for a new catering partner in July, after the Casual Dining Group, which ran The Shipyard, went into administration as a result of covid. 

Though JPRestaurants had initially stepped in to provide a Café Ube at the harbour to go alongside its Airport outlet in July, restricted public access to the Elizabeth Terminal meant this did not go ahead. 

It's the latest hurdle in a long history of difficulties for the dining spot.

The Shipyard was first opened last year as joint venture between Ports and the Casual Dining Group to provide "a contemporary pub, serving classic British pub dishes throughout the day and into the evening, along with a wide range of drinks."

Its opening was heralded as the start of a new era for the space that had been left vacant for many years.

Plans to develop it into a craft beer bar and BBQ smokehouse with live music got underway in 2014, but the project fell through in 2018 when relations broke down between the local entrepreneur leading it and Ports of Jersey.
