Police are seeking a man in his 60s with a “posh English accent” suspected of animal cruelty after he was spotted forcefully “dragging” his spaniel by the collar.
The man, who was of “slim build, with short greying hair”, was reported to have pulled the black Springer Spaniel along in a way that caused its front legs to be suspended off the floor and the dog’s back legs to trail behind it between 20:00 and 20:30 at El Tico café on Saturday 4 August.
According to Police, the spaniel was then placed in the back of a metallic green Land Rover-style car.
Another man then approached the alleged perpetrator to confront him. The dog’s apparent owner drove off “at speed” shortly after.

Police are now appealing for witnesses. They described the man as “a white male with a slight tan, [who] spoke with a posh English accent. He was wearing a tan coloured T-shirt, trousers and light coloured canvas shoes.”
Those who saw the incident, which is being treated as “animal cruelty”, are urged to call Police on 612612. Anonymous reports can also be made via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.
