Covid: class isolating at St. John's School

Thursday 22 October 2020

The Government confirmed last night both a support staff member at Le Rocquier, and a student at St John's Primary School had tested positive for covid-19.

The news from St. John's was announced in statement from the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills, which said:

“We have been advised that there has been a confirmed positive case of Covid-19 identified at St John’s Primary School.

“Due to this, a class bubble will not be in school from Thursday, 22 October and the children are required to self-isolate. They will be tested at days five and eight, subject to parental or carer consent.

“All parents have been informed and the school remains open, following advice from Environmental and Public Health.

“The children in isolation will continue to receive school work and will carry on with their education. The premises has been disinfected and the school is continuing to follow the latest Public Health advice.”

It came after a similar statement earlier, which confirmed that a member of Le Rocquier's staff support team had tested positive for the virus:

"We were made aware yesterday evening that a member of Le Rocquier School’s support team has tested positive for Covid-19.

“This individual has not been in school this week, therefore has had no interaction with staff, students or parents.

“The school remains open following advice from the Contract Tracing Team and all parents have been informed.

“The school continues to follow the very latest advice from the Health Department and the safety of pupils, families and staff remains paramount.”

The news follows announcements about classes at St. Saviour's and St. Michael's Schools being sent home, following positive covid tests.

The Government is also still investigating the source of infection for two people who tested positive after visiting their GP.

The current total of positive cases on-island stands at 81.
