Have you seen Polar Bear?

Wednesday 29 November 2017

A Jersey family are appealing for your help in finding their seven-year-old Labradoodle, who went missing nearly a week ago after a walk on the cliff paths at Plémont.

Polar Bear was last seen close to her owners' house near Café Ouen.

Other dog owners have offered help after a message was posted on the Jersey Dog Forum page. Esta Williams is one of them. She regularly goes out to help with her husband whenever a dog goes missing. "We do it simply because we would like someone to do the same if one of our dogs went missing," she commented.

On Sunday, Ms Williams and Parker Junior, who is a trained scent dog, went looking for Polar Bear on the cliff path at Plémont. The search was sadly unsuccessful. People also organised search parties in the area but couldn't find any trace of the dog.

Friends of Polar Bear's family have even used their drones to try and locate the dog but couldn't find anything. The family also went on a boat to see if she had gone into the sea.

Ms Williams said: "Lots of people have gone out to try and find Polar Bear. That is the really good thing about the Jersey Dog Forum. It's all about the dogs and people have so much empathy. Everybody goes out to help, it's marvellous. Tess and Nigel are a lovely family with a young daughter and two other dogs and they are desperate to find Polar Bear. We can only hope and try!"

While Ms Williams didn't know the couple before the search started, she didn't hesitate to offer her help. After five days of searching, she decided to print posters and distribute them at the Post Office, the Parish Hall and in shops and garages nearby.

She explained: "I think she might have got hurt and ran off somewhere. We would like people to check outbuildings, garages, unused barns, anywhere where a dog could go for cover.

"We don't know what might have happened but she might be in hiding. We can't just give up."
