Powerboat Festival agrees to support Wetwheels Jersey

Wednesday 30 March 2016

This year’s return of the international Offshore Powerboat Festival in Jersey is good news for Wetwheels Jersey - the charity that gives people the opportunity to take to the waves.

The festival is returning to the Island after a break of nearly two decades over the weekend of 6th and 7th August. It's expected that entrants from the UK and Europe will participate alongside local boats.

To mark the return, festival organisers have selected local charity Wetwheels Jersey as the event’s beneficiary charity.

Festival organiser Nicolle Maltwood said: “Powerboating has a long a distinguished heritage in Jersey and we are thrilled to see the festival return after such a lengthy break. Wetwheels is a perfect charity for us to support as it brings the thrill of the sea to hundreds of disabled and disadvantaged Islanders each year.”

Andy Le Seelleur of Wetwheels added: “Everyone at Wetwheels is really excited to have been chosen as partner charity of the festival, and we are looking forward to getting closely involved before and during the event. Our passengers will be able to find out exactly what it takes to prepare these incredible boats for a race. It will also provide us with a fantastic opportunity to showcase our work to spectators over the weekend."

Since being commissioned in 2014, Wetwheels Jersey, a 9.2-metre power catamaran, has welcomed over 1,500 passengers from nearly forty charities, community groups, schools and other organisations on board for trips to sea. The boat was bespoke-designed and built to cater for most passengers, irrespective of age, disability or other social disadvantage.

The Jersey Powerboat Club is helping to raise funds for Wetwheels Jersey through a dedicated social ticket selling portal, built by local event company Race Nation. Tickets are being sold for social events organised for the weekend including the opening meal, Friday night Awards Dinner, Corporate Hospitality and the opportunity to be a VIP for the weekend.
