Prison guards in colossal climb

Sunday 06 October 2019

From dealing with people responsible for crime to taking on a colossal climb… Prison staff have scaled Ben Nevis to raise money for a charity supporting servicemen and veterans’ mental health.

Officers and staff made it 4,413ft peak in six hours 55 minutes, raising more than £2,300 in the process for ‘Rock 2 Recovery’.

The charity, which is regularly supported by HMP La Moye, links ex-army personnel in distress with professionals for routine and emergency mental health help.

Darren Blake, Neil Fairclough, Glynn Monet, Jackie McKenna, Berie Gallacher and Debbie McCance all took part in the challenge, accompanied by friend Michel Feger.

Prison Governor Nick Cameron praised the staff for their fundraising, commenting: “I would like to congratulate these members of staff for raising funds for a very worthwhile cause.”
