"Prison saved him from himself"

Friday 09 September 2016

A 30 year-old man who attacked another man in a town park in broad daylight, breaking the victim's jaw and tooth, is starting a two-year prison sentence for two counts of grave and criminal assault saying "prison has saved him from himself."

Craig Grant Milon was sentenced in the Royal Court today to 20 months for assaulting Paul David Cox in Parade Gardens in November last year, an attack witnessed by a mum and her three children.

The two had been arguing over money when Milon punched and kicked Mr Cox.

He was also sentenced to four months in prison for a grave and criminal assault on Ian Corrigan on May 5th this year.

His defence lawyer told the Royal Court that Milon's prospects at the time had been "pretty dismal." He had no job, no relationship and no direction and was drinking himself to "oblivion."

The Court was told that since being in custody, both his physical and mental health has improved, he has a job, is going to the gym and is playing football.

When he has served his sentence, Milon will be banned from licensed premises for a year, apart from the cinema, Airport and Ferry terminal.
