Six prisoners have become the first cohort to complete a new barbering course at La Moye Prison – with one participant since gaining employment upon release.
The inmates have achieved their Level 2 Diploma barbering course, run by Highlands College.
The training involved weekly sessions lasting six-hours each, four written examinations, and assessments of their handiwork.
Those who have completed the course are able to offer their barbering skills to fellow inmates and the qualification will enable them to seek employment in the industry on release.

The initiative is aimed at rehabilitation and empowers individuals with a marketable trade and fosters a sense of creativity and self-expression.
The barbering course was selected following the identification of a skills gap in the island.
Further educational opportunities aim to address those gaps, with a barista training course expected shortly.
Highlands College tutor Tina Fernandes said: "We are excited to introduce the barbering workshop as part of our curriculum, enhancing our commitment to rehabilitation and preparing our population for successful release as a better neighbour.
“This course not only equips participants with valuable skills but also instils a sense of pride and purpose."
Gemma Lofthouse, Head of Reducing Reoffending, added: “We believe in the transformative power of education and vocational training and working with the community to support employment opportunities.
“We can offer prisoners ways of training and up-skilling, which support the gaps in the employment market on island.
"Working with partners such as Highlands College to deliver these opportunities, we can contribute to building a safer community for all islanders."
La Moye Prison is also open to offering local businesses an alternative way to achieve their social value commitments, by collaborating with training, education and/or employment opportunities for prisoner whilst in custody or upon release.
