Pubgoers mourn loss of Tipsy

Tuesday 19 February 2019

Pubgoers have shared their memories of the Tipsy after the team announced it will be closing down just 12 months after reopening, having passed into new ownership.

Formerly known as The Star and Tipsy Toad Brewery, the pub had been entirely refurbished just over a year ago.

Located in St. Peter, it had gained in a short time a number of regulars who came to enjoy the live music, the sports events and the Sunday lunches.

However, the team announced “with great sadness” on Valentine’s Day that they had had to “call time at the bar”.

“We would like to say a big thank you for your support over the past 12 months,” they added. “It’s been an amazing journey and we’ve made some great friends.”

The announcement led many regulars to share heartfelt words of support and praise for the team, with one woman describing them as “three of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of knowing for a very long time.” “Good luck in whatever you do,” she concluded her note - a message echoed by many who wished all the best to the team in their future adventures.

Local musician Alfie Butel, who regularly performed at the pub, said he was sorry to hear the news. “I always had such a great time performing at the Tipsy. All the very best and many thanks to Dean and all the staff.”

Many are mourning the loss of what they described as “a great pub.” “You’ll be missed,” said several of the messages posted on the pub Facebook page.

Some took to the comments to reassure the team that they gave the pub “110% every day”, regretting the fact it didn’t “work out for them.”

“The place itself was amazing and show due credit to what you were trying to achieve for both you and your family,” one wrote. “Such a shame, best food and service. I doubt anyone else can recreate that,” another added.

Despite not being a regular, one visitor wrote: “Been there once and it was obvious a great deal of time, effort and money had gone into refurbishment since re-opening. Really sad and sorry that it hasn’t worked out as it is a great pub.”

But it may not be the end of the road for the pub altogether just yet.

Contacted by Express, the Managing Director, Dean Cheetham, said the premises will not be empty for long.

He explained the pub had been purchased and that a new owner will be coming in. The new pub should open soon, he added, although details of the reopening and new owner are yet to be revealed.
