Record number of Santas get ready to dash

Sunday 02 December 2018

A record-breaking red tide of running Santa wannabes is set to hit St. Helier next week for a festive charity event.

Jersey Hospice is celebrating the largest ever number of participants signing up for their annual Santa Dash to raise money for palliative care in the island - and for those keen to take part, there's still time to dust off those Santa boots and help the list of runners grow even longer.

The dash will take place during the lunch break on 6 December. It will start at 12:00 at Liberty Wharf Shopping Centre with a warm up before the departure at 12:15. Registrations will open at 11:45, when the Santa suits will be handed out, but participants can register online until 00:00 on Wednesday.

The event, which sponsored by Mitchell Building Contractors, is all about taking part, organisers have said. Participating Santas are invited to run, jog, scoot or walk the mile long course.

Marina Brockbank, Community Events Co-ordinator for Jersey Hospice Care commented: "The Dash is always so much fun – it’s not every day you see a “sleigh” of Santas dashing around the streets of St Helier! The number of dashing Santas grows every year, with many office teams entering and we hope that this year will be no exception. It’s ideal for those on the hunt for something a little different to do this Christmas.

"It’s a fun way to get into the Christmas spirit and raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care, helping us to continue providing expert care for our community this Christmas and for many Christmases to come."

Individual entries cost £10 and team ones £40. This includes a free Santa suit, finisher’s medal and refreshments at the end of the race. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £10 in sponsorship for the register.
