Jersey coffee drinkers will now be able to get their Nespresso fix without a guilty conscience about their pods hitting landfill.
Previously, the popular coffee maker capsules did not have a specific recycling point on the island.
But now, after teaming up with Nespresso, Jersey Post has now provided two pod drop-offs at to help islanders being forced to bin them.
To be able to recycle their capsules, islanders need to order a free recycling bag from the Nespresso website.
The bags can hold up to 200 Nespresso capsules. Once full, they can be dropped off at either Jersey Post’s Broad Street and Rue des Pres post offices.
“We will then empty these recycling points and send the bags back to Nespresso for repurposing,” Jersey Post explained.
The scheme has been welcomed by local environmental campaigner Sheena Brockie, and other islanders on social media – one of whom commented: “Great news. One less thing for the incinerator.”
Others keen pod recyclers are already calling for the scheme to be extended into the west of the island.
