A red tide of restrictions are coming into force today for anyone travelling to Jersey from England, with over three quarters of the country now classified as red.

268 areas of England have now been classified as red and 47 as amber. Of the 316 regional zones, only the South West district of Torridge remains green.

These figures mean that 85% of the country now falls under Jersey’s rules whereby incoming travellers to the island must isolate for 14 days.

The 44 areas that made the jump from amber to red this weekend include Southend on Sea, Southampton and Canterbury.

The shift across this month leaves no direct commercial flights from Jersey to England or vice versa that do not involve travelling through a red zone.

Three regions also shifted from green to amber: Arun, Folkstone and Hythe, and the Isle of Wight.
