Remember to get your tax form in!

Wednesday 25 May 2016

There could be almost 19,000 of us with just a few days to get our tax forms in, or we’ll have to pay an extra £250.

The deadline for tax assessments is the last Friday in May – and that means Islanders have until 6 pm on Friday to get their completed forms to the department.

By last Friday, there were 19,000 of 52,000 forms still outstanding, and the Income Tax department is putting on more hands to make sure that everyone can get their forms in on time.

Since 2004, there’s been a system of fines in place – in a typical year, around 3,200 people miss the deadline and end up paying an extra £800,000 in fines.

But the Income Tax department have pointed out that we’ve all had five months to get our papers sorted out, and have warned that a delay in the post is not a good enough excuse to get out of the £250 fine.

Anyone who needs a replacement form or some help should get in touch with the department at Cyril Le Marquand House on 440300.
