Festive fundraiser's closing swim to take place after one month delay

Saturday 03 February 2024

Swimmers who participated in the '12 Bays of Christmas' charity challenge are set to join together today for a belated closing swim.

A total of 78 swimmers braved the chilly waters to meet the festive challenge of swimming in 12 bays between 1 and 31 December.

The event was held in aid of two local charities: Jersey Hospice Care and The National Trust for Jersey.

Each bay involved in the 12 Bays of Christmas fundraiser was given a festive-themed nickname – for example Portelet Bay became Port let it Snow, and Ouaisné Bay became Jingle all the Ouaisné.

The challenge's celebratory closing swim was originally panned for New Year’s Eve but it had to be cancelled, and the tides were not suitable for the event to be rescheduled in January.

However, organisers will today have the chance to mark the end of the challenge and say thank you to the intrepid swimmers.

The closing swim will take place on Saturday 3 February at 10:00 at Ouaisné Bay.
