RNLI Jersey crews kept busy over the weekend

Monday 26 June 2023

Sunday was a busy one for the RNLI Jersey crews and lifeguards.

The day started with the St. Helier all-weather lifeboat and the St. Catherine inshore lifeboat attending the annual Gorey Boat Blessing.

Just as the St. Helier RNLI crew were travelling back to St Helier, they received a mayday call from St. Brelade. The all-weather lifeboat started heading to the area, but returned when they were notified that RNLI lifeguards had sorted out the situation.

Meanwhile, the St. Catherine inshore lifeboat crew's afternoon was disrupted when the pager sounded just after 16:20.

The crew were called to help two struggling paddle boarders who were in difficulty near Grève de Lecq, but found as they arrived that RNLI lifeguards already had the two paddle boarders safe ashore.

"The day's activities show the importance of joined up search and rescue capabilities, coordinated by the Jersey Coastguard," the RNLI Jersey team said.

"We saw primary assistance being offered by the Lifeguards with back up support from the lifeboat assets in the event that it was needed."
