Rope prank could have resulted in “serious injury or worse”

Tuesday 01 September 2015

Police are investigating an “extremely stupid prank” in which someone tied a rope across a road in the trading estate at night – and they say it could have led to serious injury or worse.

On Thursday night a blue rope was stretched across the main road on the Rue des Pres trading estate, tied to a lamp post at one end and a large wooden crate at the other.

At around 9.25 pm a white van drove into the rope, which pulled the wooden crate into the road and made it slam into the van. It damaged the passenger side door and cracked the windscreen.

A statement from the police said: “We take incidents like this very seriously, this was either an extremely stupid and irresponsible prank, a planned act of malicious damage or even something more sinister that could have resulted in serious injury or worse.

“We would urge anyone who knows anything about this to get in touch with us, or with Crimestoppers anonymously.

“This incident had potential for serious injury as all manner of vehicles use this stretch of road within the trading estate, from motorcycles to heavy goods vehicles.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 612612, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
