Local scavengers raise £2,000 for Hospice

Sunday 31 January 2021

An island-wide scavenger hunt has raised more than £2,000 for islanders in need of end-of-life care.

Organised by Jersey Pearl in aid of Jersey Hospice, last week's hunt saw participants young and old sent around the island to answer various questions testing their local knowledge.

The quiz was out of 71 points and there were five teams with the top score of 67, so after a tie breaker review of the five ‘trickiest’ questions, three teams achieved five out of five and claimed joint first place: Windswept Wallies (Alex Perchard, Carlo Trovato, Marie Perchard and Geoff Perchard), Hunting Noroc and Phare (Frigot family) and BEAST (Bull, Eloise, Alfie, Sharon and Tom).

In total, over £2,000 was raised for Hospice and will help the charity continue to provide specialist care for anyone in need.

It costs approximately £700 to provide care for one person on the Inpatient Unit for one day, meaning that the £2,000 raised could potentially fund a whole two days of care that will make a the difference to someone with a life-limiting illness or nearing the end of their life.

Beyond the questions and challenges, there were bonus points to be won too and over 40 best team selfie and trick shots – like “licking” Corbiere Lighthouse – were sent in.

The results...

Best team name: ‘Jersey Bean and Pearlie Queen’ made up of Londoner Georgia Le Maistre and ‘Jersey Bean’ Sue Hardy
Best team selfie: David King, Judith King, Kath Slater, Phil Slater from the team ‘Baby it’s cold outside’
Best trick shot: Emily Martin from the team ‘The Real Scavengers of Jersey’
