Friday 23 June 2017

A body was found on the Island's North coast this morning, believed to be that of a missing holidaymaker.

Police were called to L'Etacq shortly after 6:00 today following reports of a body on the beach.

While they are currently unable to confirm this, it is believed that the body is that of 80-year-old Antonio Fernandes, who had been staying in the area of Sorel Point, and went missing on Thursday.

Searches were conducted overnight involving the Police, Fire Service, RNLI and Channel Islands Air Search, with Police appealing to islanders for information as to his whereabouts. Social media reports suggested potential sightings of Mr Fernandes last night in the St Ouen area, which have been reported to the Police. A number of other Facebook users commented, "Hope he is found safe and well."

In a short statement, the Police confirmed that there were "no suspicious circumstances" surrounding the death. A file will be prepared for the Viscount's office.
