Woman saved by seatbelt as crash flips car

Wednesday 02 April 2014

A woman had to be cut free from her car last night after crashing on Victoria Avenue and firefighters say her seatbelt saved her life.

The 48-year-old is now recovering in hospital and is said to be in a comfortable position after the accident which happened just before midnight at the First Tower junction.

A nearby resident called the emergency services and firefighters arrived to find the car on its roof with the woman trapped inside.

They stabilised the car so that ambulance crews could get inside and check the driver’s condition. Together with firefighters they got her out of the car and onto a stretcher and although she had no obvious injuries, she was taken to hospital.

Jersey Fire & Rescue Watch Commander Ryan Hall said: “The driver was wearing their seatbelt and looking at the extent of the incident saved their life. If a seatbelt hadn’t been worn then we would have been dealing with a more serious incident.”

Victoria Avenue was closed as the Police worked to investigate the cause of the crash but has since re-opened.
