Seaweed “unusually thick” - TTS

Thursday 05 November 2015

TTS say that the build-up of seaweed in St Aubin’s Bay had become so bad that they had to send diggers out to clear it.

Although a deep build-up of seaweed in the bay is unusual for November, the department is now monitoring the bay to see if the seaweed piles up again.

Transport Minister Eddie Noel said: “I can’t remember having seen this thickness of seaweed before in November.

“Hopefully, this is one-off but we felt we had to act in this instance.”

His department cleared the seaweed at the top of the beach from the Gunsite running to La Haule Slip.

The department say that they had been hoping that the recent high tides would clear the build-up, but that with low tides coming, they had to act.
