Second bomb scare in two days at court

Wednesday 29 July 2015

A second bomb scare in two days closed the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The court was evacuated at around 11 am, but the surrounding roads were not closed.

The evacuation follows a similar bomb threat made the previous day, which prompted an immediate clearance of the court building, the closure of surrounding roads, and a four-hour search of the court building by bomb disposal officers and trained police officers.

The police say that they are now undertaking a full investigation into Monday’s events, codenamed “Operation Lance”.

In a statement, they said: “We consider all threats to be very serious. The safety of our community is our top priority and thankfully, no explosive devices were located during the search of the building.

“The States of Jersey Police would like to thank the public for their support and understanding during this incident.”

The police say that anyone with any information should get in touch with them on 612612 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
