A Jersey charity that helps teach youngsters how to cook and eat healthy food says its first Healthy Eating Week was such a success it’s planning to repeat the event again next year.

Caring Cooks’ Healthy Eating Week ran from 12 to 17 June and aimed to raise both awareness and funds for its new ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ initiative.

Melissa Nobrega, Caring Cooks founder said, “We’re thrilled at just how successful our first ever Healthy Eating Week has been and we’d really like to thank everyone who has supported us.

We’ve really raised awareness of the importance of the Let’s Get Cooking Programme. It’s giving the Island’s children the skills they need to prepare healthy meals from a young age and we hope they’ll grow up with this knowledge to pass on to their children.

The programme is already having a huge impact on children’s behaviours, attitudes and learnings and the money raised during Healthy Eating Week will make sure even more children get to benefit from it.

It costs around £100 per child for a year and we’re determined that by 2025 we’ll have all 7,500 primary school pupils in the programme.”

Thanks to dozens of local food businesses putting on “specials” and donating some of their profits to the charity, the week raised more than £2,000.
