A man has been in hospital overnight with serious injuries after a crash at Bel Royal in the early hours of this morning.
The man was driving a red BMW when it hit a granite wall at around 2.30 am.
Firefighters said the accident could have been even worse – the driver narrowly avoided an electricity distribution box and a central heating oil tank.
The car was believed to have been heading west from town when the accident took place.
A statement from the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said: “The vehicle sustained major frontal damage in the collision and came to rest balanced on the remains of the wall.
“Paramedic crews quickly assessed the driver’s injuries, whilst the Fire and Rescue Service and Police worked to make the incident scene safe and set up road closures.
“Fire and Rescue Service personnel then assisted the Paramedic crews in extricating the casualty, prior to him being transported to hospital for treatment.”
The police say that they are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who knows anything about the crash.
They said: “Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a red BMW 3 series travelling from the town area towards Bel Royal around the hours of 2-2.30am on the morning of Sunday 27th July 2015.
“Anyone with information are requested to call Police Headquarters on 612612 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.”
