Skipton to sponsor innovative arts space

Skipton International has exhibited its artistic side, as the latest company to sponsor a dynamic space for Jersey artists, aiming to bring local creatives together and display new work.

Jersey Heritage’s Link Gallery, which is set in a corridor linking Jersey Museum to the Société Jersiaise, will receive the offshore savings company's support throughout 2017.

Each month, the gallery will showcase the works of a different Island artist, allowing them to benefit from an exhibition space in a central St Helier location.

As part of the Skipton Arts Series, the space will be offered to the Jersey Arts Trust throughout May, June and July allowing Jersey artists to exhibit their locals and tourists during the busy summer months.

Director of the Jersey Arts Trust, Tom Dingle, said that the space should allow artists to work in an “innovative way.”

“We will be putting out a call for artists in the near future, and look forward to working with Skipton on this project,” he said.

Chris Addy, Sites Curator at Jersey Heritage, said that he was, “…delighted that Skipton International is sponsoring the Link Gallery this year and that we shall have the opportunity to participate in the Open Studios event for the first time.”

He added: “This will certainly raise the profile of the Gallery to the benefit of future exhibitors, for which we are grateful. For many Jersey artists the Link Gallery is their first chance to have their own solo exhibition, so it plays an important role in helping them establish themselves.”

Artists lined up for early 2017 include Rob Allen in February, Hautlieu Students in March, and Juanita Shield-Laignel in April.

The Link Gallery at Jersey Museum is open 9am-4pm Monday-Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sundays. Entry is free.
