The cycle path in St Peter's has been resurfaced as users felt it was 'not conducive to cycling.'
The hogging surface on the section that runs from Rue des Landes through to Rue Carree was originally used to be more 'in keeping with the nearby environment' that's according to the Department of Infrastructure.
The department says it's listened to feedback from cyclists and pedestrians, and has now replaced the path with brown tarmac to provide a smooth riding surface. The project has also help get rid of rough areas caused by water erosion on the steep parts of the path.
But tight purse strings mean other parts of the path will have to be resurfaced at a later date.
Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure, said: “We just managed to find enough budget this year to undertake this section of pathway resurfacing. I know cyclists will find using this route much easier now and I hope it will encourage new users. It will also be easier for pedestrians with wheeled suitcases. The path provides a great off-road link between St Peter’s and St Brelades and is particularly useful for those travelling to Les Quennevais School.”
The work follows three other cycle and pedestrian path projects this year, St Peter’s Valley path, the English Harbour link and Le Hocq to Le Rocquier.
